today in defenses of boromir that no one asked for: tired of reading that boromir’s death was in vain because he failed to save merry & pippin from the uruk-hai.  the fact that this clearly important warrior was willing to die to protect those two is what convinced the urukhai that they had indeed captured the halfing who carried whatever important thing saruman wanted.  they took the hobbits to isengard (to isengard gard) because they thought they had the right ones!  boromir didn’t succeed in preventing their capture but he did in fact keep them alive by making them seem valuable.  furthermore, he actually also saves frodo in this way: because the orcs and uruk-hai think they have what they came for, they stop looking and turn back: if they had not, they might have ultimately found and captured frodo or at least raised the alarm that a hobbit with an Important Thing was on the loose, setting others searching.  which is the very heart of tolkien’s worldview - that you do the right thing because it is right, and doing the right thing is never in vain.

to conclude this essay boromir died a hero and saved not just merry and pippin but also frodo and sam - and in doing so also saved himself from the ring’s attempt to twist him to its own ends

UNDERSTANDING KRILLIN’S POWER-UP

image

Mūga no Ryōiki is the power-up Krillin gets in Dragon Ball Super episode 76. It is commonly reffered to as “No Ego Zone but this translation is an oversimplification of the true meaning.

I became tired of waiting on someone else to explain the meaning behind Krillin’s power-up in DBS EP 76, so I decided to do my own research! Through said research, I’ve discovered that there is much deeper meaning & plenty of symbolism behind the power-up.

image

ORIGIN & DEFINITION:

Roshi says “Mūga no Ryōiki” when explaining that Krillin is rising above himself or stepping into the realm of selflessness. This sentence is where the name for Krillin’s power-up originated.

image

Now, let’s break down what Mūga no Ryōiki means.

  • Mūga” meaning selflessness, self-effacement, & self-renunciation. Also meaning anattā or anātman (non-self).
  • Ryōiki” meaning area, domain, field, realm, state.

So, a more accurate way of saying “Mūga no Ryōiki” would be NON-SELF STATE.” (Personally, I had been referring to Krillin’s power-up as “State of Equanimity” until recent. I’ve also discovered that “State of Equanimity” was a more accurate term than “No Ego Zone” too.)

Mūga no Ryōiki/Non-Self State: The unique power-up that Krillin attained & that is inspired of Buddhist teachings.

INSPIRATION & RELATION: 🕉

[I’m not going to get too deep, but I plan to give substantial evidence to back my findings. My research is from the perspective of the guy on the outside looking in, because I am not a Buddhist. I’m sure someone smarter than I am & more knowledgeable when it comes to Buddhist & Hindu beliefs could explain this much better than I could. I won’t cover every facet, but I will try to get to the points that relate to Krillin’s power-up.]

I hope that if/when the anime returns, they draw attention to the similarities between Goku’s Ultra Instinct and Krillin’s Non-Self State while Goku is training with Merus. perhaps exploring what training Krillin did during the 2 & ½ months before Moro and his crew arrive could show the parallels between their two forms, like while Merus explains the principles of Ultra Instinct we could smash cut to Krillin where he applies very similar principles to his training

‘childhood is when you idolize Batman adulthood is when you realize that the Joker makes more sense’ - this is the most Reddit thing I’ve read all day.

#I thought adulthood was feeling bad for all the stupid bullshit commissioner gordon had to put up with  (geologicadept)

Childhood is idolizing Batman, adolescence is thinking the Joker is right, adulthood is realizing that Gordon absolutely doesn’t get paid enough for this shit
